Parks and Recreation

Elkin Municipal Park - the jewel of the town. It has: a 1 mile loop walking track along the Big Elkin Creek, 8 tennis courts, a municipal pool; a recreation center / gymnasium, two little league fields, a soccer field, two playgrounds, a large covered picnic area and other smaller picnic areas, an outdoor amphitheater / stage, areas to fish from. The creek is periodically stocked with trout and catfish.

Nature Trail: Extending from the 1-mile loop is a nature trail crisscrossing 3 beautiful bridges.

Mountain Bike Trails: extending from the nature trail is a labyrinth of mountain bike trails that are also great for hiking.

Crater Park - adjacent to downtown and the Yadkin River. Amenities at the park include pickleball courts, a playground, a softball field, and a river access ramp to the Yadkin River. Crater Park is connected by a walking trail, bike lane, and sidewalk to the Elkin Municipal Park.

Downtown Elkin

Downtown Elkin has been growing increasingly vibriant and active in recent years. It has a growing number of retail shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and other establishments and activities.

The Reeves Theater has been renovated to become a music venue and cafe. There is a farmers market, and you can frequently find a variety of food trucks and community activities.

Wine Country

Elkin is part of North Carolina's wine country and there is an astounding number of vineyards and wineries in the immediate area. The number seems to change constantly. At last count, there were over 20 within 15 miles, and over 35 within 30 miles.

Wine tours are available and there is a wine festival held in the Elkin Municipal Park every year.

Stone Mountain State Park is less than 20 miles away, and an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway is a little over 20 miles.

In addition, the Elkin Valley Trails Association has become a cornerstone of the community and they maintain a network of trails as well as continually working to create new trails.

According to the association, Elkin is the only place in North Carolina where three sanctioned trails converge. The Mountains to Sea Trail and the Yadkin River “blue water trail” are both North Carolina State sanctioned trails. The Overmountain Victory Trail is a Federally sanctioned trail.

Elkin Schools

Elkin is home to the Elkin City Schools system, which includes both elementary and high schools, making it an attractive place for families looking for quality education options.

Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital is located in nearby Elkin and serves the local community. There is a Walmart Supercenter, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Belk Department Store, Tractor Supply, Big Lots, and more. If you want more, Winston-Salem is less than an hour away.
